Add those Environment variables to your .bashrc (or similar) file, create an alias for them or write yourself a shell script to set them per project.
Use the sourceforge password tools to save entering your Login Name Password each time you issue a command
For a simple and one off job just download the files you want to patch from the Web CVS interface. then send us the patch.
